STORY

Remedan Mohamed

Remedan is the third born child living with his three sisters and three brothers, and Leyla is the Biological mother and the only means of income for such large sized family in Gurage Zone, Kebena Woreda. She needs to travel 36 KM round trip to wolkite from her village three market days a week to bring bread for sell in her surrounding locality as an income. According to Remedan for whom we found on the street, large family size which is challenging him to have a meal a day at least, and housing that he lives in, with very old roofing and entirely hole the walling around but still very limited single room to cook, sleep and to live in was another challenge that push him out and an able to attend his schooling in his birth place.

After six month life on the street Remedan enrolled by the project and had stayed for about four months in our rehabilitation center, having the holistic approach service intervention.

As a result of the service he received in the center, Remedan decided to be back to his family and motivated to continue his school at his birth place. Due to his exit plan process we as an organization able to tress his family, we have got a chance to meet the concerned government social affairs office head and other professionals in our tracing process so that we reflect all the challenges that have Renedan and his family coming through. Because of strong reasoning & justifications we explained the officials; we come up with consensus to organize a session to mobilize resource for new and conducive house of Remedan family in their birth place. And the new housing is the exceptional support which is not included from Remedan rehabilitation budget; rather it was the community and government integrity with our initiative. By Now Remedan and his family have got 42m2 house with three rooms from the a resource mobilized @ local level, that is 27 pieces of iron sheet and nails for roofing and walling which is entirely the government support, whereas 17 iron sheets and all the woods for roofing and walling is a contribution of community including the labor. In the process of the house construction a man living in the area with carpentry skill charges Leyla only 50 percent of his expenses. Of course the doors and windows for the house were covered by AACFSA. According to Wolkite Social and labor office the cost of the house may value equivalent to 350,000.00 to 400,000.00 birr in the current price in that locality. And handover inauguration will be held in the following three weeks maximum right after plastering of the wall is over. Remedan has got a school material with school bag, both day and night wears with shoes, and three pregnant goats for rearing in kind support and cash deposit of three thousand birr from his rehabilitation grant from UDS project. Finally if you don’t mind please hesitate to join us the inauguration day of Remedan family house.

Finally it is possible to say that we as an organization are success but still the intervention keeps us with learning mentality
